About the job
ABOUT VIKTA ENERGY
Vikta Energy is building the largest independent Tesla Supercharging network in the world. Through our relationship with Tesla, we are deploying and operating high-performance Supercharging infrastructure at leading retail, convenience, and commercial destinations, combining disciplined capital investment with data-driven site selection to create a network designed for scale, reliability, and strong site-level economics.
Our ambition goes well beyond charging infrastructure. Vikta Energy is developing an intelligent technology platform that brings together advanced data science, predictive site intelligence, network performance, and tools that help our host partners connect charging activity to business value. Our mission is to “Build the world’s most intelligent energy infrastructure network, connecting people, businesses and energy to create lasting value.”
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Vikta Energy is bringing together exceptional builders, technologists, and operators to pursue that mission and shape the future of energy infrastructure.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Vikta Energy is hiring its first VP, Energy & Utility Management to lead the economics, strategy, and execution of electricity procurement and utility management across our growing Supercharging network. Electricity is one of our most significant controllable operating costs, while timely utility service is critical to bringing revenue-generating sites online.
This executive will optimize site-level energy economics, manage tariffs and demand charges, accelerate utility energization, capture incentives, and negotiate competitive energy supply arrangements. The role balances disciplined energy cost management with reliable, high-quality charging performance and strong host relationships. We are looking for someone who knows how utilities work in practice and can build the relationships, processes, and operating discipline to scale a national function.
Reporting and scope
This is a player-coach role within Revenue Operations that will report to the Chief Operating or Revenue Officer and work daily with Finance, Data Science, Product, Site Development, and Field Operations. The VP will initially lead substantial hands-on analysis and execution while building the team and operating model.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
1. Energy economics and tariff optimization
Own the strategy to reduce effective electricity cost per kWh delivered and improve site-level contribution margins without compromising the driver or host experience.
Evaluate and optimize commercial tariffs, demand charges, time-of-use rates, and EV-specific rate structures; revisit rate selection as utilization changes.
Build and maintain a tariff and utility-cost knowledge base across current and planned markets.
Provide Finance and Data Science with validated tariff, demand charge, and utility-cost assumptions for budgets, site selection, forecasting, and investment decisions; those teams retain ownership of their financial and predictive models.
Advise Product on utility economics, operational constraints, and energy-management requirements; validate that product workflows reflect actual utility processes, while Product retains ownership of product strategy, software, and user experience.
2. Utility development, incentives, and energization
Lead utility service applications, load letters, new-service requirements, and coordination through energization in close partnership with Site Development.
Identify utility capacity, service upgrade, scheduling, and interconnection risks early; establish escalation paths and actively remove utility-related delays.
Identify, apply for, and secure eligible utility incentives, make-ready funding, rebates, demand-charge relief, and EV programs; track amounts applied for, approved, and received.
Maintain visibility into service milestones, incentive deadlines, program requirements, and post-installation compliance.
Support host-facing teams on utility service issues and resolve utility-related escalations in partnership with Field Operations.
3. Energy procurement and supplier strategy
Lead retail electricity supply procurement in competitive markets, with immediate emphasis on Texas and other relevant deregulated markets.
Negotiate retail energy supply agreements, supplier terms, pricing structures, and contractual flexibility to protect long-term unit economics.
Evaluate fixed, indexed, and hybrid purchasing arrangements, aggregation opportunities, and procurement risk in partnership with Finance.
Run competitive procurement processes; select and manage retail electricity providers and brokers; monitor contract performance and renewal dates.
Assess additional portfolio-level opportunities, including hedging and renewable supply structures, where commercially justified and within CFO-approved risk parameters.
4. Structured utility operations and performance
Establish a consistent operating model for utility accounts held by Vikta Energy, including account setup, meter changes, billing, dispute resolution, and closure.
Audit bills for incorrect tariffs, demand charges, missing credits, and other errors; pursue recovery of overcharges.
Build a monthly scorecard covering electricity cost per kWh delivered, demand-charge exposure, incentive capture, utility-related time to energize, and relevant service and charging-experience measures.
Develop practical playbooks, controls, and utility-data processes that can scale across regions and reduce manual effort.
Work with Finance to reconcile costs, improve forecasting accuracy, and quantify realized savings.
5. Utility relationships, regulatory insight, and leadership
Serve as Vikta Energy’s senior relationship owner with utilities, key-account teams, retail suppliers, and relevant regulatory stakeholders.
Track utility rate cases, EV tariffs, and regulatory developments; coordinate targeted engagement with outside counsel or specialists when outcomes materially affect the business.
Communicate clear, actionable utility economics and risks to executive leadership and cross-functional partners.
Manage external advisers and the function’s budget, and build an effective internal team as the network scales.
